Rhinoplasty is a procedure to improve the size, shape, and symmetry of the nose. It can bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face and can even correct impaired breathing due to structural defects in the nose.
Rhinoplasty can achieve the following:
Both men and women can benefit from rhinoplasty to improve the shape and symmetry of their noses. To perform this procedure on teenagers, the nose must be fully developed, which is usually around the age of 14 for girls and 16 for boys. Ideal candidates will be healthy with realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. To learn more about candidacy, contact our office today and schedule your initial consultation.
Rhinoplasty is a highly personalized procedure, and the exact technique used by your surgeon will differ from another patient. Your treatment plan will be created specifically to achieve your cosmetic goals.
There are two main rhinoplasty techniques used today including open and closed rhinoplasty.
A small incision will be created under the nose between the nostrils. This allows the surgeon better access to the internal nasal structures. A resulting scar will be well hidden in the natural contours of the nose and will fade with time.
Incisions will be created inside of the nostril, so no scars will be noticeable after healing. This technique is more commonly sued for those who desire minor improvements to the nasal structures.
Following rhinoplasty, you may experience bruising and swelling for the first couple of weeks. Most people can return to school or work after 1-2 weeks, depending on the level of activity required. After three weeks, normal, gentle activities can be resumed. As swelling and bruising dissipate you will be able to see a visible improvement in your nose contour. It is normal to have some residual swelling for up to one year. The results of rhinoplasty are permanent, so you can enjoy your improved nose for years to come!
